Frequently Asked Questions

Why are your books sorted by race and gender/sexuality?

We exist to center and celebrate the voices of those who are systemically marginalized by our current systems, and we hope that by highlighting the identities of our authors, you can broaden your worldview and de-cishet-white-male-ify your bookshelf.

Additionally, many folks want to buy books by authors that they identify with which can be really difficult to do in traditional bookstores and online bookshops, so we hope to make that a little easier!

How used is used?

We keep an eye out for books that are still in good condition with their covers in place and no pages missing, but you might get things such as scuffed covers, ex-library editions, or annotations. We do our best to label every item with an accurate assessment of its condition, and the vast majority of our books are in excellent condition.

What if I want to support Beck's but you don't have the book that I'm looking for in stock?

You can still support us by shopping for new books and eBooks on Bookshop.org or buying your audiobooks from Libro.fm! Just select Beck’s Books as your preferred bookstore and we’ll get commission on every order you place!

What is your return policy?

All sales are final. We do not accept returns or exchanges, but please reach out if you have any issues with your order.

How long will it take to receive my shipping order?

If you opt for shipping, your book will take 2-6 days to arrive depending on how far you are from us. We ship using Media Mail to keep shipping costs low, but that does mean it can take a little longer!

Can I pick up my order if I'm local to the Twin Cities?

Yes! We’re so stoked to be teaming up with The Clay Pit to offer a pickup option for our local customers. You'll receive more information on this option if you select Local Pickup at checkout.

How do you choose what books to sell?

Blood, sweat, and tears! Everything we pick is something we would personally read, have read, or would give a friend. Our goal is to highlight books you maybe wouldn’t have found otherwise.

Where do you get your used books from?

Our books come from a combination of donations, library sales, thrift stores, and online marketplaces. We are very intentional about not taking more than we need and not taking resources from those who need them.
